Three-time tournament champion Trevor Chow, originally of Baddeck, will be in the field representing Oakfield Golf and Country Club, while two-time winner Leon Carter of Dundee Resort and Golf Club, who finished third in the event last year, will also participate. The tournament offers plenty of entertainment for Cape Breton golf fans with lots of local talent hoping to win the championship. In total, 136 participants are expected to play in the event. Lingan Golf and Country Club will be the location for the 2022 Nova Scotia Golf Association's men's mid-amateur championship this weekend. “It’s a huge part of the game, 50 per cent of the game is putting so if you’re not putting it’s very hard to shoot low scores and you’re going to need low scores out here this weekend.” “I’m quite pleased with the way I’m hitting the golf ball, but I’m having issues on the green and my putting is just not there this year,” said Burns, who prior to speaking with the Cape Breton Post was practicing his putting. Overall, Burns said he’s happy with where his game has been this season but noted there is an aspect of his game he hopes to improve at the event. “You don’t have a chance to stack up with the best very often, but when you do, it’s a great feeling to know that you’ve competed with the best in the province.” In total, 51 Cape Breton golfers are slated to take part, including Glace Bay product Brett McKinnon, who won the men’s amateur championship last week at Ashburn.īurns, who has won club and senior championships at Lingan, acknowledged the fact he’ll be in tough against some of the top golfers in the province, which is what made him want to be part of the tournament in the first place.
